Advancing retirement security through voluntary employer-sponsored plans

The Pension Coalition includes employers, service providers, and trade associations concerned about the private retirement plan system. T he employer community now voluntarily provides and administers over 29,000 single employer defined benefit plans – covering 34.5 million workers and retirees and paying over $120 billion in benefits annually; over 1,500 multiemployer plans – covering over 9.7 million workers and retirees; and over 800,000 defined contribution plans – covering over 60 million workers and retirees. The preservation and encouragement of voluntary employer-sponsored plans are critical to the advancement of retirement security, capital formation, and job creation.

The coalition covers a broad range of retirement issues including single employer and multiple employer pension funding reform, hybrid plans, multiemployer plans, defined contribution plans and pension accounting.
